PET Felt Acoustic Panel MOQ: What Buyers Should Know Before Ordering Custom Sizes
When buying PET felt acoustic panels, MOQ is one of the first questions many buyers ask.
This is especially true when you are not buying standard panels, but need a custom size, custom density, or a wider colour selection.
Recently, I’ve been talking with several distributors about their 2026 inventory plans. A common question came up...
“If I need 200 panels in total, can I simply take 20 pieces in each of 10 colours?”
Sometimes this can work for standard stock sizes.
But for custom PET felt panels, it is usually not that simple.
The reason is not only the quantity. It is also how the panels are produced.
1. Standard Size and Custom Size Are Different
For standard PET felt panels, a supplier may already have the material, size and colours in regular production.
For example, a supplier may regularly produce a standard size such as 1220 × 2440mm.
If you need 200 panels in total, it may be possible to make a mixed-colour order, depending on the supplier's available stock and production plan.
But a custom size is different.
Let's say a buyer needs a panel in a size that is not part of the normal production program.
The factory has to arrange the production specifically for this size. The material preparation, cutting arrangement, production scheduling and packing all need to be considered.
This is why a custom size normally has a different MOQ from a standard stock size.
2. Why Can't 20 Pieces Per Colour Be Made for a Custom Size?
This is a question I receive from time to time.
For example, a buyer may want:
- 10 colours
- 20 panels per colour
- 200 panels in total
From the buyer's side, 200 panels sounds like a reasonable quantity.
I know, 200 panels sounds like a lot. But let me show you from the production side：
from the production side, it is actually ten small colour orders.
For our custom sizes and densities, the MOQ is 200 pcs per colour and per specification.
This is related to production stability and colour consistency.
If every colour only has 20 panels, the production arrangement becomes much less efficient than producing a proper quantity of the same specification and colour.
When we change the fiber color in the machine, we need to clean the line. If we only produce 20 sheets, the waste of material and time during the machine setup is almost more than the product itself. This is why most factories in China say no to small mixed-color orders for custom sizes.
So the important point is:
200 pcs total does not always mean the MOQ is 200 pcs.
For a custom PET felt panel, you also need to look at the specification and colour.
3. Custom Colour Is Another Situation
There is another difference that buyers sometimes do not consider: a standard colour and a new custom colour are not the same thing.
If you select from an existing standard colour range, the supplier may already have the corresponding raw material or regular production arrangement.
But if you ask for a completely new colour, the situation can change.
A new colour may require the upstream material supplier to prepare a separate raw material batch. This can create a much higher minimum purchasing quantity before the PET felt panel factory can even start production.
For this reason, the MOQ for a new custom colour can be significantly higher than the MOQ for a custom size using an existing colour.
My advice is: ask these 3 separate questions:
- What is the MOQ for a custom size?
- What is the MOQ for an existing colour?
- What is the MOQ for developing a new colour?
They may have three different answers.
4. What If You Want to Build Inventory?
This is where buyers need to think about their purchasing strategy.
If you are a distributor or importer and want to keep PET felt panels in stock, you may want several colours available at the same time.
In this situation, standard stock sizes can sometimes be a more practical starting point.
For example, instead of ordering one custom size in ten colours, you may first build your inventory with standard sizes and several popular colours.
Then, when you have a confirmed project requiring a special size, you can place a separate custom order based on the project's actual quantity.
This can reduce the risk of keeping too many slow-moving panels in stock.
It also gives you a chance to see which colours and specifications are actually popular in your market.
5. Should You Always Choose Standard Sizes?
Not necessarily.
Custom sizes can make very good sense when they solve a real production or installation problem.
For example, a furniture manufacturer may have a fixed nesting layout. An interior system manufacturer may have a specific module size. A project may require a large panel that fits a particular wall or ceiling system.
In these situations, the custom size may save work later, even if the initial MOQ is higher.
The key is to compare the total cost and convenience, rather than looking only at the price per panel.
Sometimes a standard panel with a lower MOQ looks cheaper, but requires more cutting and creates more waste.
Sometimes a custom panel has a higher MOQ, but makes the customer's downstream production much easier.
There is no single answer for every project.
6. Ask About MOQ Before Finalizing Your Design
One practical suggestion for buyers is simple:
Discuss MOQ with your supplier before the design is finalized.
If you already know that your project needs:
- a special panel size
- a special density
- several colours
- CNC cutting
- or a new colour
send these requirements to the supplier at the beginning.
The supplier can then tell you which parts can be produced from regular stock and which parts need a custom production arrangement.
This can sometimes save a lot of back-and-forth later.
It is also useful to separate your requirements into two groups:
Stock items
Standard size + standard colour + regular specification.
Custom items
Once you make this distinction, MOQ becomes much easier to understand.
The Best MOQ Is Not Always the Lowest MOQ
As a buyer, it is natural to prefer a lower MOQ.
But a very low MOQ is not always the most important thing.
For a long-term supply relationship, stable colour, consistent density, predictable production and repeatable quality are also important.
A supplier that explains the reason behind its MOQ is usually more useful than one that simply says “yes” to every small quantity and changes the production arrangement every time.
For PET felt acoustic panels, the right question is not only:
“What is your MOQ?”
It is also:
“What can you supply regularly, and what needs to be produced specifically for my project?”
Understanding this difference can help importers, distributors and project suppliers build a more practical purchasing plan and avoid unnecessary inventory.
