What Should Be Included in a PET Felt Panel Specification Sheet?

When buying PET felt panels, most customers start with the basics: thickness, colour, sheet size and price.

But these details may not be enough to make sure the supplier understands what you need.

A clear specification sheet helps avoid misunderstandings before samples are approved and mass production starts. It also gives both sides a reference when checking the finished material.

So, what information should you include?

Thickness and GSM

Always state both thickness and GSM if they are important to your project.

Thickness tells you how thick the panel is. GSM is its weight per square metre. Two PET felt panels with the same nominal thickness can have different GSM values and material characteristics.

For example, if you need 12mm PET felt at a specific GSM, include both figures in your specification instead of asking for 12mm felt only.

This makes it easier to check whether the quoted material matches your requirements.

Sheet Size and Tolerance

State the required length and width of each sheet. If your project has specific tolerance requirements, include those too.

This matters when PET felt will be CNC-cut or used to make furniture components that need to fit together. A sheet listed as 12mm thick does not necessarily measure exactly 12mm at every point.

If thickness or sheet dimensions are critical to your project, discuss the acceptable tolerance with your supplier before production.

Colour and Surface Finish

A colour name alone may not be enough to identify the colour you need.

Where possible, provide a colour reference or approve a physical sample before placing the order. This is especially helpful when the material will be used in a visible area or when you expect to reorder the same colour later.

Also describe the surface finish. Do you need standard PET felt, printed felt or a particular surface texture?

If colour consistency matters across different orders, agree on the reference sample before production.

Fire Rating and Recycled Content

For some acoustic, architectural and furniture projects, fire performance and recycled content are important purchasing requirements.

Our PET felt panels are made of at least 75% recycled material with SCS certificate.

If your project requires a specific fire classification or recycled-content percentage, state it clearly in the specification.

You should also ask which product the test report or certificate covers. A report for one thickness or product construction should not automatically be assumed to cover every PET felt panel.

Confirm the relevant documentation before ordering if these requirements affect project approval.

Packaging Requirements

Let the supplier know how you need the sheets packed.

For example, do you need individual sheet protection, a particular number of sheets per package or pallet packing? If your warehouse or customer has specific requirements, share them before production.

It is easier to confirm the packing method at the beginning than to change it when the order is nearly ready to ship.

Production Lead Time

Ask for the lead time for your actual order, not just a general estimate.

Standard sizes and colours may be ready sooner than custom sizes, special densities or products requiring additional surface processing.

Make sure the expected production time is clear once the specifications, colours and quantities have been confirmed. This helps you plan your own production or delivery schedule.

Application and Processing Method

Tell the supplier what you plan to do with the material.

Will you use the sheets as flat acoustic panels? Will they be CNC-cut into smaller parts, thermoformed or printed?

The application can affect which material details need closer attention. For a CNC project, for example, a drawing can help the supplier understand the required shapes and identify whether a cutting test would be useful before mass production.

You do not need to write a long explanation. A drawing or a short description of the intended use is often a good starting point.

Check the Details Before Confirming the Order

A PET felt specification sheet does not need to be complicated. It just needs to describe the material clearly enough for the supplier to quote and produce the right product.

Before confirming an order, check that you have covered:
  • Thickness and GSM
  • Sheet size and required tolerances
  • Colour and surface finish
  • Fire rating and recycled content, if required
  • Packaging method
  • Production lead time
Some projects will need more details than others. The important thing is to agree on the requirements that affect the material, production or final use before work begins.

If you are sourcing PET felt panels for a new project, send us your required thickness, GSM, sheet size, colour and intended application. If you have a drawing or technical specification, you can send that as well.

We can review the requirements with you and check which PET felt material is suitable before quotation and sample confirmation.
