Why a PET Felt Order Should Be Confirmed by More Than Just Quantity

A PET felt order is more than the number of sheets or containers. Thickness, size, colour, packing and loading plans all need to be confirmed before production.

Why a PET Felt Order Should Be Confirmed by More Than Just Quantity

A customer may tell you:
“We need one 40HQ container of PET felt.”

It sounds simple.

But for a PET felt manufacturer, this is usually not enough information to start production planning.

Before an order is confirmed, there are several details that need to be checked together. This is especially important when one order includes different thicknesses, colours or sheet sizes.

In practice, the container quantity is only one part of the order.

Thickness Comes First

PET felt is available in different thicknesses, and different thicknesses take up different amounts of container space.

For example, 12mm and 24mm felt cannot be calculated in the same way for container loading. If the thickness changes, the loading quantity needs to be checked again.

This sounds obvious, but it can become important when a customer is ordering more than one specification in the same shipment.

So instead of confirming only “one 40HQ of PET felt,” it is better to confirm exactly which thicknesses are required and how much of each specification is needed.

Sheet Size Can Change the Calculation

Sheet size is another important part of the order.

A standard size and a custom size may require different production arrangements and can also result in different loading quantities.

Sometimes a customer starts with one size and later changes to another size. Even if the thickness stays the same, the number of sheets that can be loaded may change.

For this reason, the sheet dimensions should be confirmed before the final loading plan is made.

It is also important to clearly identify whether the requested size is a standard production size or a custom size.

Colour Is Not Just a Colour Name

When an order contains several colours, the total quantity is not enough.

The manufacturer needs to know the quantity required for each colour.

For example, an order may be for 1,000 sheets in total, but the production arrangement is very different if the customer needs 500 sheets in one colour and 100 sheets each in five other colours.

Colour quantity can also be connected with the specification. If different colours are required in different thicknesses or sizes, the order becomes more detailed again.

This is why I prefer to confirm the quantity by colour rather than only looking at the total number of sheets.

Standard or Custom Specification?

This is another detail that should be clear before production.

Standard PET felt specifications are normally easier to arrange because they are already part of regular production.

Custom sizes or other customized specifications need to be checked separately. Production feasibility, minimum quantity and lead time may be different.

A size that looks only slightly different from a standard sheet can still affect the production and loading plan.

Confirming this early can save a lot of unnecessary changes later.

Packing Also Affects the Final Plan

Packing is sometimes treated as a separate issue, but it should be considered together with the order specification.

The packing method needs to match the customer's receiving and storage requirements, while also allowing the material to be loaded efficiently.

If the packing method changes after the loading calculation has already been made, the loading plan may need to be checked again.

That is why packing should be confirmed before the final container plan, not only when the goods are ready to ship.

The Container Quantity Comes at the End

Once the thickness, sheet size, colour, quantity per colour, specification type and packing method are confirmed, the manufacturer can work out a more accurate loading plan.

This is why “2 × 40HQ” is not really a complete PET felt order.

It tells us how much shipping space the customer is planning to use, but it does not tell us exactly what should be produced.

For a PET felt order, these details need to work together:
  • Thickness
  • Sheet size
  • Colour
  • Quantity per colour
  • Standard or custom size
  • Packing method

When these points are confirmed clearly before production, both sides have a better understanding of what is actually being ordered.

It also makes it easier to check whether the requested quantity, specifications and container plan are realistic before production starts.

A Clear Order Makes the Next Step Easier

For a material supplier, confirming these details is not about making the purchasing process more complicated.

It is about avoiding unnecessary changes after production has been arranged.

For the customer, it also gives a clearer picture of what will actually be produced and shipped.

A PET felt order may start with a simple question about one container. But before production begins, the important question is not only “How many containers?”

It is:
“Exactly what should be inside those containers?”

If you are planning a PET felt order and already know the approximate quantity, you can also send us the required thickness, sheet size, colours and quantities per colour. We can then check the specifications and loading plan based on the actual requirements.
