Most people think PET felt panel size is just a number on a drawing. In real CNC cutting, it isn’t. Sometimes, avoiding project problems starts with understanding a 10 mm and communicate better.

A few months ago, while discussing a custom acoustic panel project with a European design firm, we almost made a mistake that many people in our industry still overlook.



At that time, I was working as a sales representative for a PET felt panel factory in China, focused on supplying cost-effective polyester fiber acoustic panels. The project itself looked simple: large-format PET felt panels for CNC cutting and further deep processing.

The client requested panels based on the standard sheet size: 1220 × 2440 mm. On paper, everything seemed fine.

But here came the problem.

The final design required finished panels with a length of exactly 2440 mm. From a design perspective, this sounded reasonable. From a manufacturing perspective, it raised a red flag.

In CNC cutting, PET felt boards are never processed edge-to-edge. To ensure cutting accuracy, clean edges, and machine stability, the CNC system automatically trims material from all four sides. In real production, this trimming is usually 5–10 mm per side.

That means a board that starts at 2440 mm will never deliver a finished product at 2440 mm.

At that moment, I had a choice.

I could say “yes” first, take the order, and let production deal with the problem later. Or I could slow things down and explain a detail that most people don’t talk about until something goes wrong.

I chose the second option.

I explained to the client how CNC cutting actually works, why edge trimming is unavoidable, and why the original board size must be adjusted if the final product dimensions are critical. We reviewed the drawings together and revised the panel size at the raw-material stage, before production even started.

The result?

No complaints. No rework. No wasted panels.



More importantly, the client later told me this: “Most suppliers never mention this. We only find out after the panels arrive.”



That conversation reinforced something I strongly believe in.

Being a cost-effective PET felt panel supplier is not just about offering lower prices. It’s about understanding how the material behaves in real production, real machines, and real projects—and being honest about it early.

If you are a design firm or material distributor working with polyester fiber acoustic panels, especially for CNC cutting or deep processing, raw panel size matters more than it seems.

Sometimes, the difference between a smooth project and a painful one is just 10 millimeters.
